If you decide to journal with me, you’ll be able to

write in a way that changes things

Not every type of writing is healing. In fact, sometimes it's possible to write in a way that can actually harm us. Learn frameworks and strategies inspired by therapeutic and biblical practices to help you journal in a way that is transformative and effective.

apply what you learn

You'll be able to take the wisdom and tools you'll gain from the workshop and apply them to your own journal practice.

recover your voice + find renewal

For the month of January we're going to focus on how to recover our voice and find renewal in 2023 through our writing. We're going to uncover narratives / mindsets / thought-loops and emotions we feel stuck in. And then we're going to find ways to pivot and explore new places and new possibilities on the page.

TESTIMONIALS from former participants

I journal all the time and didn’t know if I was going to learn anything new. I loved the reflection questions that you posed to us. And the care ideas for after the class and suggestions for transitioning out of the journaling experience were so so helpful. I landed in some really helpful new places through the session and afterwards with follow up work that I don’t think I would have gotten to without your great reflection questions.

THELMA

The work you are doing in this space is of such beauty and value. Thank you so much for last night. It was beautiful, and I was able to push through a few emotional blocks to regain fresh awareness. Truly, such a gift.

Thank you for the gift of your time and guidance tonight. It was just what I needed, and I didn’t even realize that I needed it. When I feel anxious, I can feel it in my lungs. It’s like there’s a lion sitting on my lungs, and I can’t get a deep breath. I felt that way for a few days. And I don’t anymore, and I didn’t by about half way through our time tonight… I really really appreciated this time.

hi there! I'm Kristin Vanderlip

WRITER / WRITING COACH / JOURNAL MENTOR

I'm a bereaved mother, veteran military spouse, journal enthusiast, and writing coach. I believe writing can offer healing + hope to anyone - including you.

Grief, depression, and anxiety took their toll on me as a bereaved mother and military spouse. I was desperate for relief and for something to change but felt so stuck and alone. In all that was out of my control, I began to focus on what I could control. I sought help and wisdom from safe friends, wise spiritual mentors, and licensed therapists.

And then I began to write. That was when it all started to change for me. Owning my story, my choices, my emotions, my thoughts, and becoming curious and compassionate about myself and my life through writing brought (and still brings) such healing + hope to my life. I believe you have healing words to write and that you can write your way to hope.

frequently asked questions

DO I NEED ANY PRIOR JOURNALING OR WRITING EXPERIENCE?

Nope! Just an interested and willing heart.

WHAT IF I CAN'T MAKE THIS DATE AND TIME? DO YOU OFFER RECORDINGS OR REPLAYS?

Workshop recordings are available exclusively for Pen & Mend Collective members and are not included with a one-time pass. If you can't make the workshop live, consider signing up for a monthly membership to access these perks and more (and even save $). Learn more here. Each month, the day of the week and time will change so check back for future sessions that might work better for you!

CAN YOU E-MAIL ME THE PROMPTS?

Unfortunately, not with a one-time workshop pass. Prompts are another perk reserved for the members of the Pen & Mend Collective. Sign up for the collective here. You'll automatically be sent all the details.

I DON'T IDENTIFY AS CHRISTIAN / I'M UNSURE WHERE MY FAITH STANDS AT THE MOMENT. ARE THESE WORKSHOPS RIGHT FOR ME?

While I personally live and write from a Christian faith perspective and my writing practices are informed by my faith, all faith backgrounds are welcome.

I'VE ATTENDED A WORKSHOP IN THE PAST. WILL THE CONTENT BE THE SAME?

Each workshop format will be similar in layout and practice, and you might notice some overlap in tips and strategies, but each month's theme will be slightly different in content, offering a unique experience each time.

WHAT IF I REGISTER AND THEN CAN'T MAKE IT. WHAT IS YOUR REFUND POLICY?

I get it. Life happens. And sometimes we just plain forget (which is why I'll help by sending a few reminders). Unfortunately, there are no refunds for missed sessions. Instead, your payment will become a credit that may be applied to a future session.
